Gregg Makin

Dr. Gregg Makin is the Group Life Pastor at Living Faith Christian Church on Long Island, NY. Pastor Gregg joined the staff at Living Faith in 1983; and for the past eight years has been responsible for their Small Group Ministry and Leadership Development Program where he invests
his time in training and developing their leaders. He has a passion for building community in the body of Christ, and for helping people grow spiritually and emotionally.

Gregg had served as an Adjunct Professor at Nyack College for the ten years, and for most of those as the Deputy Head of the Youth & Family Studies Dept. on their Manhattan campus. He has also
been an Adjunct Professor for both Bethel Seminary and Huntington University. Gregg holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University, a M.S. in Education from Hofstra University, and a B.A. in Sociology from Houghton College.

Gregg has worked with the Executive Director of the Townsend Institute for Leadership and Counseling to develop a leadership development program within his own church.

He has utilized Dr. John Townsend’s spiritual growth model, both with the church’s leadership and in their small group ministry. For the past two years he has served on the Townsend Leadership faculty at Concordia University where he has led many process groups in addition to teaching many of their courses. He has worked with Dr. Townsend on developing a virtual or online process group and is
using them with cohorts of leaders.

During his time developing Living Faith’s group life ministry, the program has grown from 25 to over 145 groups, with 70% of their congregation involved in some type of group. Gregg has attended Drs. Townsend and Cloud’s One Week Intensive for Counselors, participated in their “On-line Coaching” program, and will be attending their “Ultimate Leadership” program.

In his free time, Gregg is generally found in motion. He loves to bike, run, and play tennis, racquetball and disc golf. Gregg and his wife Joyce have been married for 36 years and together they enjoy exploring Long Island, kayaking and hitting the beach. He is “Dad” to four adult children. Growing up in central PA, Gregg began his personal relationship with Jesus Christ as a teen. During
those years he became an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins’ fan!
