Dr. Richard J. Mullis, completed his M.A. and doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University (2008). He also earned a Th.M. in Spiritual Theology (from Regent College, 2004); an M.A. in Theology, an M.A. in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics (from Talbot School of Theology at Biola, 1995); and an M.A. in Higher Education; Organizational Change (from UCLA, 2001).
Over the course of nearly 30 years, Richard taught Spanish Language and Culture, and Biblical Studies as an adjunct professor; and Psychology and Theology Integration as an Assistant Professor, all in his first 20 year career at Biola University. He recently completed four years as an Associate Professor at Vanguard University, where he taught advanced psychopathology, professional skills, case conceptualization, various forms of family, couples, individual and group psychotherapy, and the integration of psychology, theology, and spirituality.
Richard currently teaches as an Associate Professor and Program Chair in the (MACP) Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology Program at William Jessup University, which is located near Sacramento California. He teaches courses on couples, marriage, group psychotherapy, parenting, human sexuality, psychopathology, and the complex ways that
people co-create human interactions. He has a passion for partnering with others in their growth as they deal with relational, emotional, and spiritual issues; grief and bereavement; sexuality and identity issues; trauma; substance abuse, depression, and anxiety issues.
Richard also has worked for Cloud Townsend Resources for 10 years, where he leads groups of leaders through intensive growth processes, and gives lectures to participants on a variety of leadership issues. Richard is a (TLP) Townsend Leadership Program director for Greenville, South Carolina. He enjoys assisting men and women to overcome the specific obstacles that complicate their ‘flourishing’ and growth in ‘wisdom’ in work, family, and ministry. He has advanced post-doctoral training in Gestalt Psychotherapy, Emotion Focused Therapy for
Couples, and Contemporary Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, and enjoys helping Christians embrace and embody a robust Christian worldview as it relates to insights from both theology and the sciences (i.e. neuroscience, social science, leadership science).
Richard also provides Executive Life Coaching services, organizational consulting, and intensive weekend relationship and couples retreats. He regularly partners with churches, for profit and nonprofit organizations and their leaders. He facilitates transformation efforts that involve both systemic organizational culture shifts, and inner life of the leader growth that impact one’s interpersonal and organizational life.
